Goal Achieved

From the Old Playground to a New Beginning

The Albany Riverfront Music Festival was created to help raise funds for a much-needed new playground at Crossroads Center for Children. With the support of the community, sponsors, performers, volunteers and everyone who contributed, that goal became a reality.

Before

The Old Playground

The original wooden playground had become worn and splintered and was in need of replacement for the children and students served by Crossroads Center for Children.

New modern playground built for students at Crossroads Center for Children
After

The New Playground

The fundraising effort helped make a new, modern playground possible for the students at Crossroads Center for Children, creating a safer and more welcoming place for them to play.

We achieved our goal. The support generated through the Albany Riverfront Music Festival helped turn the need for a new playground into a completed project for the students with special needs at Crossroads Center for Children.

About the Beneficiary

Crossroads Center for Children

Crossroads Center for Children is a nonprofit education and treatment program for children with Autism and Spectrum Disorders.

Crossroads describes autism as a neurological disorder affecting the function of the brain, with symptoms that typically appear within the first three years of life. The school states that autism is presently the third most prevalent syndrome in the United States and that statistics report at least twenty-two babies are born daily with this syndrome.

Crossroads emphasizes that with appropriate education and treatment there is much hope for these children. The school uses Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) as its treatment philosophy and approach to autism intervention and notes ABA as the only method for which empirical research has validated success.

Applied Behavior Analysis

Crossroads provides intensive behavior therapy using Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) both at the school and at home.

Services for Families

Crossroads provides services including parent training, sibling counseling, behavior management programs, support groups and other services for children and their families.

Program Funding & Costs

Crossroads states that funding is available and provided by the state, counties and school districts, while the costs associated with operating a program like Crossroads are numerous.
